While enjoying dinner with my boys at In&Out last night. My truck got hit in the parking lot. The teen driver was very apologetic so I didn't kill him. Now I'm trying to find a replacement right front fender. Seems all the vendors sell half fenders or fiberglass. Can somebody point me to a source for a steel full front fender? Thanks Rich.
I would like to know somebody who sells, new, full replacements, that fit also. I don't know what's up with those 1/2 panels.
They make full replacements for just about everything else it seems. I wind up doing like Bertha66 says & searching for clean used myself. When I find clean ones I usually get them media blasted so I start working with clean, bare steel.
Ya all I've found with the ones mentioned are 1/2 fenders that need to be stitched together to make a whole. I will go with used but I'm putting together an estimate as if it was any other car that he hit and would go through insurance to fix. My body shop that fixes the wifes 01 Taurus asked for a source and I'm just checking. I guess i could price both halves of the fender and get a higher labor value for the extra welding. I don't want to sound like I'm taking advantage of this kid but after shelling out $600 for a 2" scratch my son put in a neighbors new F250 I can't see letting him go for a couple hundred.
Problem i'd have with half fenders is they'll rust out faster at the welded seam, and theres loades of filler to be used to make it look mint again.
Good luck Cobra.
OK after further checking I found a full steel fender at NPD(National Parts Depot) $249.95 +shipping tack on a bumper for $149.95 +shipping thats over $500 and we haven't even started on paint and labor.
CG,
Sounds like a plan to me! But be careful read on about what happened with my Bird.
I couldnt believe a parking lamp, Mounting Bracket, and front bumper cover for my 85 T-Bird could cost over $1,000 but it does! But here's the rub, the guys' insurance will pay it but they want the car because it's 85% of "Total" value of the car by some stupid chart they own . . . .
FWIW car is an 85 Elan with '93 5.0L, MAFS/TP - EFI roller engine, an SVO B303 cam and a chip. It is a clean 20year old, 30th anniv'sry car. And a contemporary "Hot Rod" ride. The billet wheels, Michelin Tires & progressive suspension on it's nearly $2,000. If I get paid for the damage I'd have to sign a release & sign my AeroCoupe T-Bird over to them too. . . . NAh!
I'll just go by the guy's apartment some night with my F-150 beater and re-arrange the side of the jerks Nissan Maxima for him.
He backed out of a parking space into my "Bird" without even so much as looking behind him or stopping, he stopped when he hit me. I was stopped & blowing my horn. The guy behind me was too close for me to back up. I can't believe they can take my car if they pay my claim. I can't lie claiming phony injury, it's against my principles but I can see why some people would and do.
Instead they can pay for his collision to fix the side of his rice burner. I bet that will cost them a tad over a grand, huh? Funny how I can't cheat but have no qualms over getting even with them for the troubles they cause, isn't it?
The whole collision- insurance- Lawyer thing is getting out of hand I think.
FBp-I had the same issue with my '66 about 7-8 years ago, except I smacked a deer. My insurance said it was totalled from an estimate for ~$1100. I called and asked them to send an adjuster to check the truck. They did and the adjuster OK'd the repair since I could show receipts for more than they claimed was the value of the truck. It sometimes pays to say BULL and make them send someone to look.
I just sent photos and a request to change my policy to a replacement value of $9K to my insurance co (Liberty) and they sent me an updated policy. It is a good piece of mind to have and know when and if I need it.
Fender benders really suck. I do carry agreed value insurance on mine. The kids mom says they're good for the damage to my truck so I'm not sweatin it. He was driving an 02 Dakota full of new dirt bikes so somebody in the family has the money. I'm just going to get my three estimates and tell them to pick one and cut a check. Then I'll go to the wrecking yard get a fender for $35 and a new chrome bumper on line, a big pile of sand paper maybe a spray gun some primer and paint and do the whole truck. Heck the last time I got ran into it was my 86 Mustang I got enough to pay for the much needed long block.
