If your smelling clutch then someone doesnt know how to use it. Every year I see a line up of plow guys at the trans shop (all brands) because they destroyed the trans plowing. My buddy tries to stock at least one of each of the major trannies (e40d, 700 whatever dodge uses, etc.) and he can make a killing if he can get the truck back on the road before the snow is gone from someone who needs to be out plowing.
Agreed, never shift before coming to a complete stop , and especially dont mash on the gas while doing so. especially with the power of the diesel, something will have to give eventually, and if it isnt tire traction, its going to be expensive.
Well I did some calling around today to find out about changing my plow set up (western V-blade) to a new 05 PSD CCab.
1. 1st Snowplow dealer says they can do it, but springs must be rated at 6,000. Gasser only needs 5600 rating. Also needs to have Snow plow prep pkg
2. 2nd Snowplow dealer says they cant do the change over to the CrewCab because western doesnt "show it being recommended" However if I get a SC PSD or a Regular cab PSD then its ok. also said that I can put it on the gasser with a rating of 5600 on the front springs and Snow plow pkg.
hows that go again,,,ask the same question to 10 people and you get 10 different answers... hmmmm.. this truck shopping experience is getting worse as I go.

I just saw a 350 PS CC King Ranch last Friday with a plow prep package. The salesmen and I were both amazed, I was positive you could not get one on a CC. The reasoning by Ford went like this, if you happen to load up your CC with 5 or 6 people while plowing, you will overload the front axle. Hasn't happened to me yet, and I'm pretty sure it won't.
On that note, there are tons of guys around me that are running V's and straights on CC's, Ford and GM. I know you have to find the right dealer to do it, so keep trying. I will be getting a different 350 PS CC King Ranch w\o plow prep and am going to be putting a Blizzard 8611 LoPro on it. Most if not all the plow prep options are include in the other packages--camper, heavy duty, etc.
I ran into this a while back..Which is why I drive a GMC CC/SB gasser. It was the only Crew Cab combo that would allow a plow package. I wanted a Duramax/PStroke Crew cab but no one offered it in 2004. 2005 is the year that Ford started offering the CC diesel with plow package. In Connecticut, almost all the diesel crews have the package. I know the trucks w/o the plow package can handle a plow, bit I just don't want to hassle with the dealer if something goes wrong.

.
Yeah on both sides... the ford dealer and the plow dealer.. it pretty much makes it not worth it.
And the plow dealers ive come across dont want the liability, hassle of putting the plow on the vehicle if its not rated for it, if western doesnt say its "authorized" to do so for that particular truck model, type.
So far 2 dealers have said they wont do it unless the truck is rated for that plow.
Ford offers a plow pkg for the CC PSD (or Gasser) which is hard to find on a truck on the lot to begin with. One dealer said he could put the heavier springs on for me if it didnt have the plow prep pkg but it was going to cost me almost 350.00 more to do it. Makes my current truck that i have worth even less..
Lets see probably could get around 8,000 for my plow truck if I sold it, minus the plow. take out the 1500.00 for what its going to cost to get the new truck a new bracket and hardware, plus 350.00 for heavier springs. = around 1850.00. - 8,000 = 6150.00. Wonder if its even worth it. I could probably keep this plow truck now and run it for 10 yrs if thats all I did with it.
i have plowed 2 seasons so far and have had no problems. the torque is amazing while plowing. you barely even need to give it any go pedal.
you could try selling your current truck with the plow, and getting a new truck and plow.
