I'm big on SIM games (Not THE SIMS - Simulators...).
Besides MS Flight Sim, I also have a nifty program called "TRAINZ" that is pure model railroading for your PC. You can build layouts, collect train engines and cars, model your own geography and terrain, and the weather is even modifiable.
Best of all - you can run it from either an external view, or the point of view of an engineer seated inside the cab of the traction engine, so you get to see all of your scenery rolling by the train as you ride it.
BEATS THE HECK out of HO railroading!!!
You can also set up camera points, and if they are close enough together, they seamlessly follow the train around the route from a ground zero perspective...
Its as if you were standing right next to the tracks in the same scale...
DYNAMITE sim, I swear. The graphic detail is excellent - you can set it as high as you can possibly go with your vid card. Its realistic enough even at lower settings. The downside: Its a graphics HAWG....
Get lots of RAM before you run this one, and run maintenance before the install, and after long sessions running it.

As far as driving games go, you guys should check out the newest Test Drive: Eve of Destruction game. You start out with this little beater car and you need to win races to earn money to buy a better car for the demolition derbies and races. Its really addicting.
Also Driver 3 (Driv3r) is a great game for the driving. I don't get into the storyline of it too much, just like to drive around like crazy and smash stuff up
Might get Doom3 based on your recommendation. Just got a new computer last month, and haven't really put it to the test yet. I've been stuck in a rut playing the WWII FPS "Day of Defeat" (even joined a clan).
This game will put it to the test. What specs does your new computer have?
Now if only 3D Realms would get their act together and bring out Duke Nukem Forever, at least before my computer is obsolete!

There is a reason it's called Duke Nukem FOREVER! I gave up the game upgrade cycle, and now if they want me back, they can write the games for Linux out of the box.
I gave up on it too. But then the other day my brother and I were talking and I wanted a new computer. I could build a custom computer for the same price as a computer from Best Buy, for example. But, it would be twice as powerful. So, I built the best I could afford.

I set the graphics to high. I could not set them to Ultra High or it would slow down. Resolution is set to 1280 x 1024. All advanced options are on as well. Verryyy Sweet!
Supposedly Duke Nukem Forever is going to come out in 2006. It has been 10 years since Duke Nukem 3D. I wish I could still play that game on Windows XP, but it doesn't work.

I got it from Best Buy - Gateway 507
3.0 GHz Pentium 4 w/ hyperthread
1000 RAM
200 GB hard drive
228 MB video graphics
17" flat panel monitor
I suppose I could have sprung for a separate graphics card, but it seems to do okay on Day of Defeat and Call of Duty. The 17" flat panel is only marginally smaller than the 19" CRT monitor, and looks sharp. I played doom and Quake quite a bit a few years ago - awesome games.
WOW - my teenage boys live for World of Warcraft. I played Warcraft II alot, but WOW requires too much studying. The manual is probably smaller for the space shuttle than that game's.
You should probably be fine for that game. Although you did say that you should have sprung for a seprate 3D video card. DooM 3 requires one. So, you may not be able to play. Everything else in your system should be fine.
You can probably disable your on-board video and add a 3D video card for less than $200 (or around there). Would make gaming A LOT better.
You should try out Far Cry its a great game, you can drive boats and jeeps and kill people up close or far away with a sniper rifle, lots of great weapons and the outdoor jungle stuff is great. Painkiller is good mindless shooter.
For me doom 3 was a big dissapointment. I was expecting a good mindless killing game and got WAAAAAAAAAY too much story line.
Yup, gotta agree. Overhyped, but still fun. You want real fun, get Halflife 2. You want mindless killing and blowing crap up, Unreal Tournament 2004 is your answer.
I loved playing the original shareware doom on my old windows 3.11 and DOS 6.22, even then, with the low res. graphics cards (what were they? 1MByte)
Doom was fun., I have been wanting that 3rd version but my dell stinks for gaming.
Before we start to knock Dell PCs for gaming, I own a Dell PC, and its setup pretty good for gaming. When we bought it 2 years ago we ordered it with all upgraded goods that were the best of at the time.
Proccessor - P4 2.5 GHz
Memory - 512 MB RAM
Video - ATI Radeon 9700 128 MB
120 Gig Hard Drive
4.1 Suround Sound (4 Altec Lansing speakers with sub)
18" Dell Ultrasharp LCD Monitor (Recently upgraded to a 20" Ultrasharp)
The system runs the games I play fine for now. I'm upgrading my RAM to a gig soon which wil give a huge boost in perofrmance while gaming. 512 is a minimum requirment for modern day FPS gaming. And upgrading RAM is alot less expensive than upgarding a video card. I'll be with this system for another half a year, one year at most. I think I am going to buld my next PC, but we wouldn't hesitate to deal with Dell again because of the excellent service and reliability. The game I play most is America's Army. I run all visual settings on full with maximum resolution. I get 40-70 FPS (Frames per second) on all maps, which is pretty good. I play Doom 3 on 'High' with 1024x768 res, and it runs smooth and looks purdy. Anything higher and my comp will lag like a biatch.
Best as always.

My knocking Dell is a personal thing - I've built most of my PCs and I personally think they charge too much for what they give you. Same applies for Gateway. Both companies give your system JUST what is needed, for example if your PC requires 200Watts they cheap out and give you a 250Watt power supply. Things like that. Besides we used Gateway almost exclusively at my last job so after ordering thousands of Gateways it's ingrained in me to knock Dell PCs
