I replaced the resistor wire when I installed the Pertronix Ignitor I and Flamethower coil.

Do you know if the resistor wire goes to the starter solinode or is it under the dash?

It's under the dash. It's a big fat pink wire. I didn't replace it. I spliced into the red-green wire at the ignition switch where the pink wire is spliced. I then ran my new wire from there to the coil.

Why do you ask these questions and what would it have to do with timing?

Mine works best at 12* BTDC. This is at 5,000ft near Denver. Seems to be a good compromise between starter drain and performance. I NEVER hear ping of any kind when cool and lightly loaded. The pertronix module is great. I have no idea of what this gives me in advance at 2000 RPM, but my distributor is a new stock type. The steady spark timing allowed a safe advance of 3* over the worn unit. Mileage improved. Starting improved.
