I followed the directions listed here but rea into two problems. I had to use the existing distribution block because the proprotional bloch was mounted next to the master cylinder ( I also converted to power brakes as well and that is the way the kit came)
Secondly, I used spindles and calipers from a 76 but the flex brake lines for that year won't fit,, they are to short!!! Any suggestions ? Please e-mail allenlane1@***.net
From the disc brake conversion guide article I wrote that's in our tech articles section:
"Replace the calipers on the spindles before you put them on the truck. This is the easiest way to do it. Also, make sure you don't put them on upside-down! This mistake can be made easily, and the brake lines won't reach if you do this (don't ask me how I know). The bleeder fittings should be at the highest point of the caliper. Now is the time to replace the rotors if they need it. "
Allenl, The porp. valve can be mounted anywhere, I have seen them on top of the steering gear to down under on the chassis.
Seems that one set of brake lines goes under the chassis and the other goes over the top. You will need to use the donor brackets to hold the lines also. A lot of guys come up short on the little items when they go to a yard and gather parts.
Thanks, I had bought new stainless brake lines and they all routed to the existing distribution block. I took it off to clean it and around the frame. It seems to be s straight pass thru without any proportioning. I left it in the system since the lines fed to it. The proportioning block feeds it. Do you think this is ok? I was hopeing some would know what year would have longer front flex lines than the 76. My truck won't be on the road for months so I won't know till then if everything works! The engine (360 )
is out and yet to be worked on. Does anyone have suggestions as to Hop-ups. I plan to put alum. manifold, new carb, pointless ign. and headers as of now. I think it already has a mild cam in it.
