oil for 6.0...Help!

To all the oil gurus:

Last oil change went with Rotella T synthetic 5w-40. Last milage check (hand) was 19.69 MPG. Was very happy. Went to Wally World to get oil and filter and lo and behold they no longer carry either. Went to parts store and picked up filter (leaving for N.C. on Fri. so no time to order one). Anywho my problem is do I go back to dino Rotella T 15w-40 or go with another synthetic? (mobile 1 or such) No one else in town carries Syn. Rotella. Help!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

my 2 cents: Mobil 1 is CH-4 rated & is fine for your truck. Cheaper @ Wally world also. I like the synthetics also because they will not coke as easily at the turbocharger. Have a nice trip!

There is a lot of us on here who use Delvac 1 from Mobil. It's an awesome oil, not to mention I've found through blackstone reports I can get about 15,000 miles out of one change and it's still not to the limit of the oil. WAHOOO!!! The best deal I've found is at a local supply. $90 for 4gallons.

Best of Luck,
Corey

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV in 5 quart bottles is running approx $ 20.00/bottle @ the Walmarts around here. The quart bottles are $ 4.88. When you do the math you almost get a quart for free. Makes it less than $ 60.00 for full syn oil @ each change.

After I change the oil, I start the process of buying a 5 quart bottle here and there so I don't have to get it all at once for the next oil change.

Thanks for all the replies. I just wanted some reassurance before switching synthetic oils. I feel all warm and fuzzy now.

But would you run your truck 15,000 miles between changing the oil?
And should you?

Guess I wasn't clear.. I meant to say I do run my truck 15,000 miles between changes. Blackstone report says I can still go farther but I'm just fine with every 15,000 miles. Since the report claims normal/ok levels of metals/fuel and sufficient levels of additives, everything should be fine.

Best of Luck,
Corey

Not to change the subject, but the other day I saw a F-250 diesel, not sure if it was a 6.0 or 7.3 but on the back window he had a big "Amsoil Dealer" sticker and then under that it read "this truck never needs oil changes". What's up with that? Being around motocross I know of Amsoil and the claims that you can run their 2-stoke mix at something like 100:1 compared with normal oil ratios of 40:1. But an engine that never needs oil changes?

Depends on how you drive it - an all city 15k miles? No way. An all highway 15k miles? I still wouldn't.

I drive 3300 miles a month to work and back - highway cruising. I've used Delo for years, but I still do my change at 8000 miles. Blackstone always says - oil still looks good, but I think pushing it further isn't worth the trade-off.

Oil Additives for a PDS.

I just traded in my 99 SD gasser for an 05 6.0 PSD. I have always run Dura Lube engine oil additive in my gas motors with good results. What is the best additive (Slick50, Dura Lube, Z Max, etc.) for the 6.0 PSD?

None of the above.

Fuel additives good. Oil additives bad. IMO. Also, I believe the 6.0 manual states as much.

I have just changed to Royal Purple Synthetic.

I just turned over 31,000 miles on my 2003 F-250 and just switched to Royal Purple 15-w40 synthetic.I have also been using Blackstone analysis since I bought my truck, and I am looking forward to seeing what this next sample tells me.
Oh, I also just ordered a 5 gallon pail from Jegs @$92.99, which works out to $4.80/quart.

I am using RP also, as soon as I get a few more miles on it I will send in a sample also. I defenitly notice a difference between dino and synthetic. I am also running the OilGuard bypass filtration. Great product. RP is also a sponser of this site. And so is OilGuard.

no. never use a old spec oil in these engines. the ch has been dead for a while the 6.0's require CI-4 + oil.
