2.5 Liter Performance
My brother's got a 2000 Ranger (2.5 liter 5 speed extended Cab) that has problems with performance, especially in 2nd gear when accelerating. I know other people who've had this motor that are happy with the power and was wondering if anyone has had a degradation in performance with this engine.

I can't say as I was ever truly happy with the power from the 2.5L, even after some of my mods. Hence one of the reasons I moved up to an F-150 with the 5.4L. Now that I think about it...second gear was about the best gear I had for off-roading. I'd leave it in second for tight and narrow dirt roads so all I had to do was tap the gas and break the tires loose to slide around a corner.

well if you really wanna get more performance, just doing two things make a huge diff. when i had my 2.3 it dogged everywhere i couldnt even hold 5th gear up hills or sometimes even going on level ground. and that was without ac or powersteering. the first thing i did was get rid of my air muffler on the intake and put in a 8 inch long 3 in wide piece of aluminium tubing, after that just cut the box open for the filter if you have a cone filter or get a k&n. after that id suggest a nice cherry bomb just make sure you cut the exhaust before it turns into 2 inch pipe after i did that my ranger would just barley smoke my friends 4.0 and would hold 5th through all but the steepest hills.
