hi all, i have a 99 f250 sd 5.4L 4x4... well, i recently just took a road trip from prince rupert canada, to seattle washington... i dunno if anyone has driven this road yet, but it is rather winding, and lots of hills through the mountains. well, on the way there, i averaged 16.8 MPG.... and on the way back, even though i was loaded with probably an extra 500 pounds, i still got the same. i was amazed, from my usual 10 mpg...... just wanted to share !!!
My 04' F250ccLWB 4x4 FX4 PSD with ZF6 get's that mileage as an average. Almost from day one of engine break in. I love it. I know that route up north too. Beautiful.
yeah, its a georgeous ride......if you can get over the fact that their gas is averaging about $3.70 Canadian..... which right now equals just under $3.00 US..... its a good thing i increased my mileage by 70 % !!
I didn't know a 5.4 could get that kind of mileage. I just got rid of my 02 5.4 F250 SB XcaB 4x4, It NEVER got more than 12 from the day I got it. I have a drop ramp trailer 6x10 that I haul my goldwing on sometimes, and with that hooked up on the interstate I only got 10 mpg. But I will say that with the new to me 03 f350 psd cc sb 4x4 with 25,xxx miles, I am getting 17 and change, and that is strictly in town. Only had it for one tank full though. Glad to see someone is getting good mileage from a 5.4 though.
What mods if any have you made to get this kind of mileage. I also have a 99 F-250 with the 5.4 and best I have ever got was 14 mpg on the highway, and that was only once.
I run a 02 F250 5.4 supercab with a manual trans for work and I get 7-11 most of the time. But I am loaded and driving hard to get to one part of the state or the other. I also pull a trailer from time to time and boy does it drop though the floor then....
the only mods i have are on my exhaust.... i removed the cat, and have a flowmaster 40 series, dual 2 1/4" outlet, with 2 tips on the rear. otherwise, it is bone stock. i just rolled over 84,000 miles on this last trip. at about 75 mph, i was turning about 2200-2300 rpm's. she was running really good though. btw, it is the 4spd auto. my normal mileage is around 10-12. but, i live in a small town with a lot of hills (ketchikan, alaska). i try to stay in od, but it doesnt matter around here, still stays 10-12 tops.
