i have an 89 f150 300/6 and when i get into high speeds the spedometer wraps around so it is almost straight down then it feels like the fuel shuts off why is this and what can i do about it

yeah it feels like an rpm limit or governer of some sort but ford sez it is in the spedometer i wana un hook that thing because it shuts of when the spedometer is almost touching (but it is only 3000 rpm) the engine gets higher than that shifting from second to third

My dad used to have a 91 F-250 w/460 that used to stick to speeds above 80 mpg. One day the odometer, I guess, burned up. He said that it smoked awile and stoped. But, the truck was still in warranty and he got a new speedometer. The truck had about 11k miles on it when it did it. There may be a recall on those. You might check it.
