Yea...did the same trying to replace a wheel cyl. Snapped the old metal one right in 2 pieces. Went to autozone and grabbed a short section with the flared ends and fittings for about 3 or 4 bucks. (3/8, I think) You may want to pick up a bending too if you don't have one. They are only a few dollars but can save you from kinking the line. The best piece of advice I can give is run some type of simi-stiff wire through the place where the line runs through the frame rail...then you can use that to pull the brake line through...otherwise you'll spend way too long trying to shove it through that tiny gap.
Anybody got a lead of SS braided brake lines for these older trucks? Would like to replace mine as they are 33 yrs old. I know reinforced rubber is available, but I like to upgrade when I have a choice.
I found brake lines at NAPA too, but I just bent mine by hand, take your time and it works fine to bend them without a tool. Also, you'll need a flaring tool, because the chances of your new line being exactly the same length as the old one are pretty slim.
I went with Classic Tube, they advertize in all of the off road/car mags. I ordered the complete set in stainless plus extended braided lines for my '70. You can order just one line in any material you want they have 3 or 4 choices and can ship same day. Good luck.
Skyjacker sells custom-made braided stainless lines for up to 14" of lift, or something rediculous like that. They're actually cheaper than good reproduction rubber lines, and do improve pedal feel.
