I just picked up a 2001 F250 Diesel and was wondering if I should just change the transmission fluid or have it flushed at a transmission shop? It has 175K on it and oil looked okay. Just any pros or cons to having the flush?
I got mine flushed and had the filter done at the local lube place... it was only $80 (Cdn). I figure it is well worth it if only for the fact that I, as the new owner, know when it was done last and have a record of it.
All part of good maintenance in my book. Do it now and you shouldn't have to worry about it for quite a while.
I used this method. I did not change the filter this time, but will next time. Ford doesn't even say anything about changing the filter. This way works like a charm. It only took like one hour. Try it you'll like it.
yeah a tranny flush is only good if you like to know your doing as much to save your truck as possible other than that is over rated. flush it and do it every 30,000 whether it looks bad or not. and you can certainly do it yourself like the artical says. that is the same way that i do tranny flushes at work. so unless you want to replace your tranny early go ahead and flush it. your always better safe than sorry. we get alot of people who come in with trany problems and the fluid is like engine oil and we ask when they last had it changed and they give us the funniest look just say "i don't know...."
