The way it is here, if the branches from your neighbors tree cross into your property, you have the right to trim them. If a branch from the same tree blows down and take out your roof, the neighbor pays.
I've got a big oak tree between my house and the neighbors, but the trunk is on the neighbors land. The neighbors insurance co. threatened to cancel unless she had the limbs over my roof trimmed. I trimmed what I could and we had a company come out and do what I couldn't, (tree's over 100 years old with about a 4 or5 foot diameter trunk). We split the $500 bill and I got to keep the wood - I told her I was hoping for a limb to crash during an ice storm and pay for a remodel. Tree has easy access, but they did have my 12/12 pitch roof to deal with. Thing about it, the insurance co. gave her just 1 month to take care of it. It's a great tree.
Last year a buddy of mine had a tree come down that was his neighbors,it took out his fence part of his brand new 18x30 above ground pool and damaged his garage pretty bad, contacted the neighbors insurance company and thay told him it was a act of god and he would have to call his insurance company ,well after two months they paid for damages but what really sucked is the fact that he had asked the neighbor to do something with the tree before it had fallen because it was clear it was half dead.
If you are going to have it removed contact a timber company, a tree that big they may atually pay you for it.
I used to HATE it when people would call us up to cut down their tree for free if we could have the wood. You would be VERY LUCKY if you found someone to cut down your tree just for the wood (especially elm). Plus, I would be a bit worried about thier insurance (if they have it).
I just thought of it as an idea.
I know a company that more than jumped on the chance for my bother in laws pecan tree. The thing was 4' diameter at the trunk, it was a mile down the road from the timber company and they were more than happy to even haul off all the debris from mit, and even leave him a nice pile of wood chips.
Of course I do realize again it was only a mile down the road, they showed up with a large loader and a truck and that was it, the chipper later of course. Oh and it was already down from a tornado.
How close is the tree to a power line? in WI if a tree is in danger of falling on a power line the electric company will cut it down for free. you just have to remove the debris.

Check with your insurance company, mine told me if the tree was dead and caused damage, I (they) was liable. If it was alive and caused damage, it was considered an act of God.
C-4 is old try Sintex for a bigger bang, like the M16A1 ( love it) and the M203 with 40mm launcher tube, better (love it also) good to 400 meters with a casualty radius of 5 meters. What, you don't have them or a source to get them? Just don't try to break my door down I might be armed. A 20 mm rifle is also alot of fun to fire, did that one time years ago.

Beemer Nut, I think it's Semtex.
Doesn't matter how it's spelled. I just want to be invited the next time anyone uses more than 5 lbs. of that stuff. LOL
Off my China topic, sorry.
sierraben, I had to look a few minutes ago, the Sage "combo" I have is a 590 series 5 wt pole not 4 wt as I posted before, 9' 4 piece with a Sage reel. Would I look like an idiot at the ponds in GGP to try to cast a line? Kennedy Meadows has planters that bite on dog food, taste the same. been to Twin Lakes?

I may have. Sounds familar. I've been to so many fishing areas that I forgot most of them.
I love the sage rods. As you saw in my other post, I have a 6wt-9' model GFL 690 RP Graphite II rod and Ross Reel.
The other rod is a sage GR9 8/9 GII rod blank made by S.F. Flyfishers Supply.
Why would you look like a idiot at the casting ponds?
It's a great place to practice.
Who showed me some pointers was Mel Kreiger.
A 4 piece Sage rod? That's a few bucks there for that rod.

Fly rods, Ford trucks and things that go BOOM all in the same thread. Now we's talking.
My first fly rod was a St. Croix, I thought about a sage when I upgraded this year but a local shop carries Orvis so I have an Orvis now. It's a 4wt 9' 2 piece rod, i love it.
My St. Croix was a 4-5wt 8'6" 2 piece. The Orvis is a bit lighter and has a little more finesse to it that my St. Croix but I like em both. I too have got some wierd looks while sitting on my boat with a fly rod on the lakes around here, great place to practice though.
I purchased 4 piece vs 2 piece because I travel alot on the BMW bike, they say 2 piece has a better feel? I bet there are some old timers proud to show me some casting tips. Upper High street in Oakland has casting ponds but the neighborhood isn't that great rather go to SF. Is the pond in GGP near Spreckles lake? What's the best time to get help ( I need alot)? Thanks sierraben, Carl.....=o&o>.....

I'd say on the weekends.
The old timers love to show the green horns how to cast.
Everytime I go there (not to often), it's somewhat empty, but that's because it's on a weekday.
The ponds are across JFK Drive from the bison (buffalo) area. Also near the Polo fields.

Birdhunter, and don't forget the beer (if you drink).
A friend of mine has a St Croix rod and loves it.
Another fishing buddie did the un-mentionable; he placed his $400.00 flyrod on the ground. Talk about a "BOOM".
His swear words were louder than the snap-crackle-pop of all of that modulus graphite bursting.
