How much cam?

So with the basic stock 390 set up (compression, dizzy, exaust) what is the most cam to run for torque? I'm not new to the game but don't know where to start from. any suggestions?

can you tell us more about your 390

What year truck?
What are you going to use it for?
What do you want it to do?
Are you going to do a rebuild?

crane343901 I think will be the most for the stock compression...more importantly the valve springs.

There's a lot of different stock 390's. Stock high compression 390's, stock 2 barrel 390's, truck 390's, which one do you have?

For a stock truck 390, I'd say use the Crane 343971.

Engine is in 73 F250 2x4, auto, 2 bbl, auto. will be going into 76 F250 4x4. Will grow a 650 Holley, stock intake, cleaned up heads, and if I loose enough bolts a new set of headers. This will be an interm engine for off road use only. 460 to be installed late winter for use in spring. I just need a little more than I have right now. I thought as I will have the engine out I could give it a little spice for the rest of the summer.
