I have a '95 Bronco with a 351 and E4OD. When starting off in D, I can hear a very slight "clunk" noise. I can just hear it if I listen closely, more feel than hear. And only on pavement, can't hear it on dirt. Is this normal for this trans? I have no experence with it so I don't know and don't want to be trying to fix something that's not broken. It is not the rear or the u-joints, I checked them first. Truck shifts fine. I changed trans fluid and filter. Fluid looked real good and I cut filter apart and that was very clean. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks in Advance
Hmm, If you don't hear anything back I can check that out in my '90 3/4 ton next time i take it out. i have actually never paid much attention to things like that but my guess is that they shouldn't do it.
Ford issued a TSB on a replacement slip yoke to correct a clunk that's noticeable especially when letting off part-throttle abruptly. The old yoke binds on the output shaft splines. The new yoke has a different metallic makeup or coating. I replaced my '93 F-150 4x4's yoke & it did correct that situation. I don't have the TSB anymore, but a search of the site may reveal it. If not, ask a dealer.
