300 ci In-Line 6 EFI to Carbureted Engine Substitution Question
I was wondering if anyone here can help with an engine substitution question.
I am getting a transmission out of a wrecked `94 F150 to put into my `83 F100. The engines are both in line 6 cylinder 300 ci, but the `94 is electronic fuel injection (EFI) while my `83 is carbureted. My mechanic says the cost would be the same to put the engine/trans in as a unit as to just put in the tranny, so I'd like to get both the engine and tranny. However, the mechanic doesn't know for sure if it is possible to put the manifold/carb on the newer engine. He also says it will be a MUCH more expensive job to convert the `83 to the EFI setup because of all the electronics, and he can't give me a firm price. So it's either the tranny only or the engine/tranny as a unit if the engine can be carbureted.
Does anyone know if it is possible to substitute the `94 engine for the `83 engine by replacing the intake manifold and carburetor? And if so, do you know if there are any other modifications required?
Otherwise, can you tell me how I might be able to find out if this substitution possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Vern

300 ci In-Line 6 EFI to Carbureted Engine Substitution Question
I checked the Hollander interchange program, and they say it is not interchangable, I also checked Fel Pro Gasket numbers, and there is a difference in the years for the intake exhaust gaskets.
From what I see, it is not possible to change out this motor for your old one.

I would say it's probably pretty difficult to dump the EFI and go carbureted, but you should be able to pull the computer and wiring harness from the wrecked truck and swap the EFI into your '83. Just make sure you get the complete wiring harness.
