Is anyone else having a problem with the intermittent wiper control? Mine is on a '94 Flareside. Some settings are too intermittent. I have to bump the switch to get the wiper going.
Has anyone replaced this switch on the turn signal lever?
Try cleaning the switch contacts. Use a small blade to pop the end cap off, then remove the screw and slide it out. Clean the contacts with contact cleaner and reassemble.
Cheers,
Popa Tim
The multi-function switch is relatively easy to replace, just remove the shroud around the steering wheel and it screws on. I'm guessing that you have have an issue with the wiper control module though. It's behind the glove box on the RH fender inside the truck, remove the glove box door, slide the box out and it's on the right side. Very easy to replace, 'bout $50.00 from Ford. Multifunction switch is about $50.00 as well.
Since the wiper starts working when I bump the switch I think i will try cleaning the switch first. If that doesn't work then I will try replacing parts. Thanks for the info, I am sure it will help me fix this annoying problem
I have this problem, but it doesn't annoy me very much. I would actually prefer a push-button so I could trigger a wipe at will. I would also prefer push-buttons for my turn signals

No go on removing the end cap. No way to pry it off without destroying it. I guess I will have to buy a new multifunction switch. I can remove the screws that hold it in, so I will do that when I have a replacement.
I have read of this problem here several time and tried a couple
times to remove the **** for cleaning and it just wouldn't budge.
Then I read this thread today and the light went on in my head..
(my bulb is not real bright sometimes), I looked closer and
noticed there is an "END CAP" on the ****. Ive been trying
to pull the whole **** off. Well as I have read and just not
understood in the past. I simple used a small flat screwdriver
to remove the endcap, then a #2 phillips to remove the screw
and TADA.
Well I hope this helps the next guy.

ps. advance autoparts has a replacement
turn signal/wiper control/hazard for $66.00
Replaced the switch today and it looks and works like new. Went smooth. No problems. I kept the old switch for a spare. I didn't realize how much of the white had rubbed off the wiper control until I put the new switch on.
After I was done I looked over the old switch. I did find an end cap but had to use a pocket knife to pry it off. I could not see a seam but figured it had to have one. When I got the switch apart it had some grease inside and some of the spring contacts were broken. Explains why it wouldn't work well.
