I just got my new 2005 F-250 4x4 ext. cab 5.4L V8, i got dual exaust installed with no mufflers but when i stomp the gas and revs high its sounds like the tires are peeling out for a little while what or why does it do that or is causing it, and the second question is my truck will NOT do a burn out i have tried everything from power braking it to putting it in first gear and power braking it and it does not work what is not allowing it to do that and can it be fixed so it can burn out because my friend is making me look bad in his 97 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9LV8....please help!!!
WOW! I don't even know what to say. Everything you are bringing up here is what pisses people off about big trucks. And as far as making you look bad, you're making all of us look bad by driving and behaving in the manner you are.
Ford Truck Man, If burning tires was important to you , you should have got a V10. Your Exhaust mods have probably cost more than the V10 option does and a stock 3 valve V10 will smoke your tires , no problems. On the other hand you still have yourself a very nice pickup. The 05's are great trucks. take care, Wrenchtraveller
i find it hard to believe it wont spin the tires at all. my 04 would spin the tires with 285 75's on it with the posi, especially when i loaded it up. i had to use 4x4 at the racetrack (couldnt lose points and car wasnt running) to keep the tires from spinning.
i had the diablo accumulator valve in the tranny, which made a world of difference in shifting and transmission function and firmness, you may want to try that. its under 50 bucks, if i recall correctly.
my 05 v8 is a stick, but has worlds more power then the 04, making it sound stranger that it wont spin the tires. i dont go out to try to do it myself, but sometimes trying to get o ut of work (4 lane 55 mph road, most people going 65) ya gotta jump on it, and set the horsies free.
5.4 is no race motor! 5.4 in this heavy truck is like putting a v6 in a half ton-it'll git r done, but not very fast. Trust me-I own one. Wish I'd gotten a V10. If you want a race truck, trade it for a V10 or a lightning! As for trying to drive like that, QUIT DOING IT! Your making us all look bad!
i actually thought the 4.2 was pretty impressive in a regular cab 5 speed 150. in addition to getting 20 mpg easily. we've hauled heavy loads plenty of times for a 150.
Same with the 5.4. my 5600 lb regular cab 2wd 6 speed truck is a whole different class then your crew cab 4x4 that weights probably 7500-8000 lbs.
Its making almost 300 lb ft at 1000 rpm, it should be able to spin the tires no problem.

I hear what your saying Isky. The 5.4 is no chump of a motor-It performs well for a V8. The 5.4 in our expedition will lay you back in the seat and burn the tires all day long (not that I've done it? ) But . . .my 7000# empty truck is a dog with the same motor IMO. If I had buyers remorse about anything, it was buying the truck with the V8 instead of the v10. Still a good truck, but I wish I had a V10. More power-same mileage.
