I have a F350 w/400 auto. When turning key to start dosen't fire. Pulled coil wire off to check spark and doesn't spark until you let up on the key when attempting to start. Replaced coil, plug wires, switch on top of steering column, cap, rotor, checked power to coil both prior to starting and during. I'm not an electrical expert but there doesn't seem to be much left.
HELP!!!!
Ok, you replaced the ign. switch, not the key lock right? You checked for voltage at the coil while cranking and just plain key on? Sounds like the Duraspark module isn't getting voltage while cranking! Start by checking the white wire on the two wire plug while cranking for voltage, you should get 12v's.If not, you got a break or bad connection. Also check the red wire on the plug for constant voltage in run as well as crank position. If no juice, break or bad connection again but could still be a defective ign. switch! I'm suprised the motor wont fire up when you let the key go which could indicate a bad spark module anyway.

If you are not getting voltage to the coil while the starter is engaged look at the starting solenoid. Don't know about your specific ( year, etc) application but a lot of these trucks get a straight 12V from a dedicated lug on the start solenoid on the firewall to the coil during starter engagement. good luck,

if you have a duraspark ign. if you have juice to the coil when the key is in the run position. the module is probably toasted. the module has a start and run position. i have seem a similar problem exept it would start in the start pos. but would not run in the run pos.
