Engine Lock Up When Cold Start
In The Mornings When Starting My 94 F350 7.3 Turbo (243,000 Miles) The Engine Acts Like It Is Locked Up. The Starter Engages But Only Turns The Engine Maybe 1 To 2 Inches. I Have Been Told That It Could Be Hydrolocked. By Either Water Leaking Into Combustion Chamber Or The Injectors Are Leaking Off Into Cylinders Over Night. I Can Turn The Flywheel By Hand, A Foot Or So. And It Busts Off And Will Start All Day Long. The Radiator Is Still Full (rules Out Water I Think). This Has Been Going On For About 3 Weeks, Off And On. Lucky I Have A Spare Ride. Has Anyone Had This Happen Before Or Heard Of This Occurence?

Not sure if you could do like a gas engine and check the smell of the oil. Usually will get a strong gas smell from them if its leaking down. Not sure if it would do this on a diesel. With it not turning by hand with the flywheel I figure its not the starter. Unless the awsome compression of the diesel is what's keeping it from turning. I know how hard a 10.0 to 1 compression big block is to turn.

My 97 F350 PSD was doing the same thing. I found I was leaking antifreeze somewhere into the cylinder. The truck did run good but had a slight miss. Mechanic redid the right side head and it still leaked anitfreeze into exhaust. Check your exhaust for anitfreeze smell. If i held my key forward, it would roll over very slow, then take off. I ended up putting in another motor I had from the same year truck, just had fire damage on top of motor.
