i bought this 1994 f 250 7.3 diesel a year ago. at the time it was getting an injector pump put on. it has been sitting for a year now. i just put it on the road a couple days ago and it drove fine for about 35 miles then i let it sit for two days and when i started it the engine started to surge between 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm and would not stop and is still doing it. it will do this up to 65 mph after that it drives fine. i just put new injectors in it today and replaced 6 glow plugs and still the same problem. any ideas anyone? i also lowered the idele so it now sugses between 700 rpm and 1200. rpm.also when i took out the injectors it was wet between the top threads and the copper washer on 6 of them is that normal? two were dry. i replace all the return lines on the top of the motor beteen the injectors also

Reason: misstakes
First I would get some Stanadyne fuel conditioner (Pro or lubricity) and double dose it.......ie put 2 bottles in the full tank and drive it.
Did you change the filter in the past year, if not I would do it now.
What is the model # of the injection pump. You say you changed the injectors what code was on the nut flats.
You may want to do a pressure and flow test of the lift fuel pump first....
Do pressure and flow test on the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
does any of this sound like it could be the injector pump? do they sell a gauge for this? what do you mean by fuel shut off solenoid? thanks for thwe reply
First Rusty always answer/reply to your original post do not start a new post for the same subject....right now you have 2 for the same thing going, not a big deal but lets stay on this one ok........
It could be the IP but there are other things like algea, water etc that can effect the operation of the filter, IP and engine. Drain the filter base into a container see if there is any crud or water. Do you know how to do the filter draining.......
Do you notice the same problems from both tanks? My rear tank has some sort of contaminant in it, and I get s urging problem when I get down to < 1/8 full. My
front tank works just fine, and when I switch from one to the other, I can feel
a definate change in the power of the engine.
ctann your problem is probably a broken off fuel pickup, happens a lot on older and newer models. Surging shows up around 1/4 tank as your sucking air into the fuel system.
