Hi, Having a shifting problem in my 94 STX Ranger 3.0 It all started when i changed the cap and rotor. I pulled the vac line off when i did the cap and rotor. When i got under the truck to put it back on i noticed that there was fluid in the rubber hose that attaches to the modulater. So i read up on it and it said to change the modulater if there was any fluid at or around it. So i did. Now it shifts way to fast (stacked) Thats what the Trans shop called it! They want to rebuild or replace. The truck is in great shape for a 94 but it has alot of miles on it to be putting 1200.00 to 1800.00 in a 11 year old truck. I guess im just not convinced that it needs to be replace. It was shifting fine before i replace the modular. I did'nt touch or do anything else to it other than changeing the vac modular. I can shift it manuelly and it shifts just like it did before. Can any one tell me anything about this trans? If the shift is vac controled? computer controled? Is there a speed sensor that controls the shift? rpm controled? I can floor the truck and it shifts 1,2,3, overdrive. All within 20 30 ft or so....
Thanks
Sounds like you have the wrong vacuum modulator or a defective one. Some of the older transmission units were adjustable. Maybe yours is. I would take it back to the place where you got it.
p.s. Run very fast away from that transmission shop!!!

Thanks for pointing me to the right form. Sorry about that! I will make sure im in the right place from now on. I did'nt know that the modular could be adjusted. Because the first one i bought from Auto Zone had the set screw in it. I took it back and got the one thats in the truck now from Ford Dealer. I will check at murrays or auto zone again. Dont think the dealer will take this one back. Thanks for the reply!
