I took compression test of a 62 352 and got 100psi cyl1,125 psi cyl 2 115 psi cyl 3 125 psi cyl4, 115 psi cyl 5 125 psi cyl6, 115 cyl7,125psi cyl8,all plugs looked normal gray- brown color with no oil fouling and no carbon buildup after 2000miles carb(4100 autolite) rebuilt 3 mos ago no oil burning (no blue smoke) and tuneup done new points gapped to 019,timing set to 12 degrees btdc. She starts right upeverytime but has a serious lifter ticking going on andsome oil leaking from the bottom ,im restoring the car to original (62 galaxie500 xl) with myself handling everything but upholstery.Do you think i could get away with just having the heads done? thanks
I'll take a wild guess: The ticking comes from the front?
When you did your compression test, did you do the dry/wet routine? Did the reading on #1 come up with a few squirts of oil?
The rule of thumb I heard as a sprout is that you want all of your cylinder readings within 10% of each other, #1 is 20% lower than the highest reading.
If you can eliminate rings as a cause of compression loss, check lift at the valves. I'll bet a nickel you are looking at new lifters, possibly a new cam.
