I own a 1977 F250 4x4 with disc brakes in front. The calipers are so large that I can not use a smaller size wheel on my truck. Recently I found out that this size tire has been discontinued by all tire manufacturers. Just wondereing what everyone else is doing about this situation. Is there a solution like smaller calipers. I do use my truck for what it was designed for.
Thanks Blu Mule
You can use 16" rims i have a 76 Hiboy with front disk brakes and i put new steel waggon wheel rims on it which were 16's and they fit fine you'll more choice in tires if you do.
My 78F250 is running 16" wheels. There seems to be just enough clearance to run them. I have checked my wheels for a scratch that would come from rubbing while the wheels flex (they do flex a little) and there is none.
I think he went to a ricer tire store and they didn't have a clue about truck tires. If you want a laugh go into one of those places and ask them about changing the tires on your split rims. You get a real "deer in the headlights" look that is hilarious. If you ask them about adjusting the wing on your Civic they will be all over it.

My some-what related question is this.......What Ford model years ( and other makes, GM, etc ) can I expect to find 16 inch factory rims on to replace my antique 16.5 rims on my 78 F-350 long wheelbase PU??
I suppose this has been touched on before, but I cannot find it in the search.
Thanks, Dale in KS
As far as I know, only Ford and Dodge pickups will work, as chevy used a smaller diameter hub pilot, and so the centers of the chev wheels will be too small to fit onto a Ford/Dodge rearend. So Ford rims up to 98, and as far as I know, rims from a new Dodge should still fit.
Yes chevy hub diameter is a little smaller. they will work ont eh back fine but not the front. to get them to work on the front my dad opened the center of the chevy wheels up on a lathe enough to make them work. but i now switched over to alluminum rims...

Try to find 33 x 12.00 x 16.5" in radial and highway tread. 9.50 x 16.5 will be around for a long time as this is a common size on small delivery trucks.
