These seals should last at least 100,000 miles as long as the valve guides are not worn. They can be installed with the head still on, but it requires the use of an air compressor. Once the valve cover is removed and the rocker arms removed using a spark plug hole, hook up an air compressor line to the spark plug hole of the cyl you are working on, this will push the piston down and hold the valve up while you remove the springs. Once the spring is removed change the valve seal, and reinstall the springs and locks. be very sure that the locks are on right before removing the air hose. Do this for all 8 or 6 cyls.
P.S. You will need a valve spring compressor tool that allows you to remove the valve springs with the head on.
