I'm assuming you pulled the yoke using a yoke remover. The seal can be removed by using a seal hook. It looks like a dentist pick only much bigger... At least thats what it looks like...

Make sure you are able to torque the pinion nut to 800 lb-ft and hopefully you measured preload on the bearings beforehand. I learned my lesson. My pinion wasn't installed correctly so the differential at the pinion bearings for lunch and now i am having the rear rebuilt.

i suppose you could also remove the seal with a slide hammer and curved tool to catch the lip and slide hammer it out... do not hammer on the yoke.

Maybe I shouldn't attempt this on my own then I don't have a yoke remover and i don't have a torque wrench then gets anywhere near 800lb-ft. it's just been bugging me the seal won't leak for 3 weeks then the odd time it will have a little drip on the driveway and now the last two days it's been leaking really bad.

You check the preload on the pinion bearings by seeing how much deflection of a dial indicator it takes to start turning the yoke. You want to match that if it is within specified range. Another thing is that if you do the crush sleeve wrong, you can't back it out, you must install a new one. If you don't install it right, your pinion bearings will get toasted. Ask me how i know.

My torque wrench stops at 150 ft lbs, but i blew the gears out of the casing the other day doing front hub work. wonderful piece of junk torque wrench.

Are those tires 265's?

I hear the toyo's are good tires but some have bad luck with wear. I'm running silent armors now 265s and they are nice, but wet traction leaves a bit to be desired.... good luck on the rear differential... pay a bit more to have it done right, or you'll be looking for a new rear diff like I am right now...
