fuel filter removal

Can someone please tell me how to remove the fuel filter (the one under the body near the frame) on the left side of the truck. It has strange fittings that I have never seen before, the hose does not seem to pull off? I don't want to pry to hard on it! I am sure there is a simple answer, I just don't know it!! Thanks

On the filter there is two conectors, these conectors are only pushed in and have a plastic clip that locks them in. remove the plastic clip and after the clip is out, just pull the line off. Be very careful as fuel may spray out. Always pull the front line off first and then the rear line off. Have a small containter ready to catch any fuel that may leak out. Use safty goggles to keep fuel out of your eyes in case of spay out. if the truck has been sitting a while there should not be any presure. but I have seen some that do.

Go to your local autoparts store and buy a fuel filter hose removal tool for Fords. Insert the tool into the end of the filter around the hose and press. The hose will then release. If the tool you buy is for more than one size, you may have to try several sizes before you find the one that will release the hose. Mine has two sizes and will only work with one size.

It depends on what year truck you have. Ford has 2 designs of fuel lines. Older models have plastic clips that can be pried out and then lines can be removed.Make shure you replace clips. Newer design has a push on type fitting that is metal. You need to purchace a fuel line disconnect tool. Push it in to line facing away from filter to spread retainer clips in line. Then line can be pulled off. Sometimes tool will not go into line because dirt can get wedged in there. If you push the line on filter futher and use some spray carb cleaner to flush out lines or blow them out with compressed air. some times this works. other thing is to make shure replacement filter nipples are the same length. If you put on shorter version you canot get tool into fitting the next time you replace filter. You will have to cut off filter with a hacksaw. Not cool with gas spraying all over the place. Pay attention to this I see it all the time. Short filter will fit and work fine the fun comes latter. Other thing you can do t

To get the pressure off of the fuel line, I always pull my fuel pump relay. Then I crank the engine for a few seconds. This will relieve any pressure on the fuel line.
