Has anyone heard of any rumors of when FORD will jump into the 4 door compact truck race. I want one, and with real 4th doors and seats an adult can fit in, okay even squeeze in. I hope it comes soon or I'll be forced to do something drastic and park a Dodge in my drive way, ouch!
Ford has had one for several years- it's called the Explorer Sport-Trac. We may CALL it an Explorer, but it's built on a Ranger chassis. And before you go off and buy a Dodge (or Chevy, Nissan, Toyota), sit in the back seat of each one of these and tell me that any of them even come close to the room in the back seat of the Sport-Trac.
<!Maybe you should do some research before you go spouting off about other trucks that you don't know the true facts on!>.
Yes the sport-trac has 5 in of more leg in front and a whole 8 in of leg more in back, but is narrower in the hip area, and has a bed that is a whole foot shorter than the DODGE. Besides that it does not look like a truck maybe that is why they call it a Explorer and not a RANGER. Don't get me wrong I'm dyed in FORD blue hell I probably bleed blue, but I need a real 4 DOOR 4X4 COMPACT PICK UP TRUCK not a wanna be.
Someone asks when Ford is going to bring out a compact pickup with room for adults in the back and real doors.
someone else responds that Ford already makes that truck, and it has more legroom than a number of competitors.
Original poster blasts away, claiming the person who answered hasn't done his research, even though the answers are a direct (and correct) reply to the original posters questions.
Someone needs to re-read the posting rules...or what am I missing?
The only time I get to check out the competition is at the local auto show. I made it a point of comparing the back-seat room of the new Dakota, Frontier, Colorado and Tacoma. Personally, I couldn't care less what the printed dimensions are; those are based on what the manufacturer states, not some independent 3rd party (read: numbers can be falsified by manufacturers to produce what they want, not what's necessarily correct). I could not fit my 5'-11" frame into the back seat of even one of those trucks, but I'm very comfortable in the back of a Sport-trac. I would think the MAIN reason one buys a compact 4-door pickup is for a decent-sized back seat, one that real people can sit in. Yes, the Dakota has a larger pickup box; nowhere in your original post did you state that was a priority.
As for the Dakota having more hip room, who cares? That only matters if you regularly carry 3 people in the front seat, in which case I'd think you'd only consider a FULL-SIZED pickup truck (F-150s get about the same gas mileage as a Dakota).

I thought Ford already had a four door model of the ranger? Overseas in Europe I think, they have a four door turbodiesel ranger for sale. Just what I think I read somewhere. Sorry if this information is wrong.
The Explorer sport even looks like a Ranger from the front. The only thing missing is a decent bed size option. A lot of people would say just get a full size truck, but when your driveway and garage were built for Model A's and T's, width is also an issue.
Howdy yall.
Here in Iraq there's lots of them little cridders running around. There's 4 door 2 and 4 wheel drive Rangers with both gas and diesel engines. I'm lucky enough to be stationed at one of the larger camps in country and they are mostly used by the civilian contractors (most of them have superdutys though), and as a sort of POV for some of the brass. Some of them are real nice dark green or grey with power windows, ac and all that high speed stuff. Then there's the junkers with almost no options and all beaten up. I can take a couple pictures if you'd like since theres no OPSEC about a 4 door ranger

Pictures would be fine, but what would be better is to do like they used to do back in WWII. Send us one a piece at a time
I'd love to have that Aussie 4 door Diesel Ranger that they have down under. Speed isn't a big factor in my choosing a truck. Mileage and longevity is.
