This 96 ford explorer 4.0L is starting to drain my bank account. I cant belive that Ford charges $94.87 for a DPFE sensor. I ended up buying the sensor even though this price is ridiculous. For future refrence, and for the wallets of all my fellow posters, where can you get this sensor or other parts for a better price?
I and the rest of us poor college students thank you for your knowledge. I just put the sensor in and it is working like a charm. I shall keep my fingers crossed that another code pops up. This repair fixed a 1401 0402 and a pending 0420 set of codes. I am so happy, yay!
For future reference, dont always buy parts from Ford. OEM is always more expensive. Also, O'Reileys is generally cheaper than other stores. Look around before you buy if possible.
I had the same problem on the same vehicle. Checked prices from all the stores, found AutoZone to be the cheapest. On a whim I decided to check eBay. Somebody was parting out a Mercury Sable. The DPFE sensor happened to be the exact same part number as the one on my Explorer. I purchased it for $14.99 plus $6.00 shipping. Works like a charm. Granted, it's not new...but our Explorer had about 140,000 when the DPFE went bad. The Sable had 65,000 miles, so with any luck the sensor I got will last me for 80,000 miles or so. There's a lot of parts I wouldn't consider ordering used or ordering off of eBay, but I decided to give it a shot for this sensor and it worked out good.
