What does a extra cooling radiator look like. i think i saw one in a junkyard camper special truck. it had a giant upper tank mounted on what looked like a normal radiator core with the smaller size lower tank the upper tank was about 4 1/2'' across.
Gas hog, Mine is 4" thick X 28 inches accross X 32" tall. It's so big, that it sticks up a couple of inches above the radiator support, and hangs down almost even with the bottom of the bumper.
Doc
Gas hog,
That's the stock one. 79 trailer specials pictures are an aftermarket replacement, which is what I have, but they clearly illustrate the size difference. I called places like autozone for that radiator, and it was very expensive.
I called the local radiator shop, and they ordered me one for about 100 bucks cheaper than anyone else in town.
Doc
Gas hog,
You won't believe how huge it is until you see them side by side in person.
LOL! You should see that super cool radiator up next to an inline 6 radiator.
Doc
Actualy, there are several different core supports, but most can be easily modified to accept any radiator that you want. I ended up cutting the hole in the support bigger on mine, and drilling 2 holes.

The guy I bought my truck from swapped in a mopar radiator that looks like it is from a dump truck. It is huge, and keeps my monster 300 cool as ice, even without a shroud
Hey Doc, just curious what did you pay? I went with the 4 row and it ran me 399 to my door w/ lifetime warr. That was a hard one to spring for. You are correct about it being aftermarket, it is a Modine
I just bought the 3 core 'maximum cooling' radiator from autozone for $280(free shipping) with a lifetime garauntee. The smaller one in the picture comparison above costs $200. Though it seems like all the new radiators have the fittings for the Automatic trasmissions but they come with a plug if you dont want to use it. (could probably use that cooling port for engine oil or powersteering fluid?)
Its massive and had absolutely no problems keeping the 360 cool in triple digit temperatures during stop and go traffic while I was boiling in my own juices. (I need to get rid of that black vinyl seat :P ) Figured I should by a new one since i've practically replaced everything else, the original is still good if anyone needs one in so. cal
When I mount the new one, I'm gonna put some fine mesh on the core support so no big rocks can go through and poke a hole.
Trailer Special, I went down to the shop in town that re cores radiators and had them order it. I had to go down and pick it up a couple of days later. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but I'm pretty sure it was right around the 300 mark. Mine is a 4 core also, but I can't remember what brand. The wife is sleeping and I don't want to wake her up, but sometime or another I'll dig out my reciept and find out the brand and exact cost. I had been running a 390 with a 3 core radiator like the smaller one in your picture. When I made the switch to the 460, I just couldn't keep it cool on real hot days. Down here in Texas we have a lot of real hot days, so I definately had to make a change.
I am running a 195 degree thermastat in mine, and once my guage reaches about 200.....it just stops no matter how fast I drive or any thing else I do. That radiator is great.
