I remember reading somewhere what was involved in taking out the stock down pipe and i have spent a good long while searching for it but cant find it.Im also wanting to know can it be taken out as one piece(the down pipe that is).I know alot of people cut them out. Thanks
I had to cut mine with a sawzall. It wasn't a big deal, just get a new 6" demolition blade and have at er.......My downpipe (flowmaster) came with detailed instructions.
someone else correct me if i'm wrong, but from my experiance doin the downpipe swap (i cut mine into 3 pieces) would be that the ONLY way to get the old one out in ONE piece is to unhook the cab form the truck and lift it up..... unless your feeling productive and wanna pull the motor.....
I think you can also support the transmission up and remove the transmission support cross member and then take out the down pipe. I just cut mine out with one cut just before the trans support. (and it was with a hack saw, and it was a Bear to do).

The hardest thing about the new install is holding the pipe and fiddlin' with the clamp. I couldn't manage to get the new pipe bungied to my satisfaction. When I found some help to just hold the DP, it was a done deal in about 10 mins.
"when i found some help to just hold the DP, it was a done deal in about 10 mins." thats what little sisters are for right? cause thats what i used mine for.... "here, stand up here and hold this right here."
Well the only real reason i dont want to cut the stock down pipe is if i decide(the wife decides) to get another truck and trade this one in.But who knows.I guess its time to get out the saw and cut it off and put the 4in on.
I dont see why an aftermarket DP would affect selling the vehicle in any way.
are we talking about a SD truck also??? the stock DP is already 3" round not crushed like the OBS truck. IMO should be good to prolly 350 HP before EGT problems arise.
