are we talking about a SD truck also??? the stock DP is already 3" round not crushed like the OBS truck. IMO should be good to prolly 350 HP before EGT problems arise.
Diesel Rod
Actually there are some pretty good crushes in the SD DP, but not nearly as bad as a OBS truck.
I have exactly 1/2 the smoke due to the 4'' SS Magnaflow system that I installed compared to the stock system with my 60 hp tune running.
I borrowed my neighbors sawzall and cut the stock system in 5 places, 1 cut on each side of the stock muffler, 1 before and after the tranny mount, and 1 close to the rear shock.
IMO the 2 cuts that my Magnaflow instructions said I need just were not enough.
My new 1 piece DP was a bear to install as I did not have a helper, after I got it clamped up right, it was just a matter of getting every thing lined up and clamped down.
I remember reading somewhere what was involved in taking out the stock down pipe and i have spent a good long while searching for it but cant find it.Im also wanting to know can it be taken out as one piece(the down pipe that is).I know alot of people cut them out. Thanks
On my early '99, the downpipe came out in one piece. This was with the turbo removed because I was replacing with Banks housing. The new downpipe goes back in with no clearance problems.
well, thats the way its got to be done. maybe i used the wrong word. maybe not "firewall" per say, more like, the insulation/heat shield
The owners of the OBS trucks can verify this but, many of those trucks were a pain to upgrade the exhaust. The new body style isn't that way. It seems like you could probably get a 5" in mine if you wanted, with just common sense getting in the way.
