Oh yeah baby....Only a $18.99 cable from the local parts store....$15 on Ebay.....Then I replaced the coil, and voila....The trucks purrs like a kitten!! Yeah!!!!Now to fill the tank and see what my mileage is now. Before the carb rebuild, it was 13 MPG, but now I rebuilt the carb, put on a new coil, and put in a speedo cable........Maybe 15 MPG?????? Here's hoping
Glad to hear that it was an easy (and cheap) fix! 15mpg in a Ford ruck?? are you high? Just kidding, it should definately get better mileage now.
I had a 390ci in a 69 F250, that truck got 10mpg no matter what you did with it. You could drive it nice at low speeds, hard at high speed, or any combination in between and it always got 10 mpg. It was a good truck
Congratulations,
I know that grin...ear to ear!
and also the graditude to these awesome guys ...
When people ask me if I did it myself I answer, yes and no...I had help from all of you + my local truck club and the neighbours! and I couldn't have done it without you.
...the sound of the replant coming to life, Priceless!
If you've disconnected the EGR. you'll have to get the distributor fixed/changed. The vacuum advance is the problem when you remove the EGR.
Sounds like a dumb question, but; Do you have a gas filter on your fuel line? Also, my 54 F100 had to have its gas tank cleaned before it would deliver fuel reliably. The old varnish would clog up the fuel line.
The EGR is non-existant. Never had it, never will.....The vac advance is working fine now. Yes, I have a fuel filter on the rig....It's kinda a requirment. Otherwise, all that sludge gets into the carb, and instead of replacing the filter every few months, you rebuiold the carb every few months....Not my idea of fun. I had the same thing happen to me on my 67 mustang. I had to replace the gas tank. That car satr for almost 6 or 8 years. The 53 has only sat for around 6 months.
WAAAAAA again!!!!! Someone loosened up the luggs on the drivers side of my 53, and now, I have a ruined rim and ruined luggs. Fortunatly, I noticed it before the wheel fell off! But now, I'm out a rim and a set of lug nuts.....Darn it! PLUS, I had to have it towed home! Fortunatly, I have completely emptied out my storage unit and now I have an extra $200 a month to burn on the truck......Plus, I have AAA, and I'll be re-embursed for the tow. This has been a rough day. I figured I was lucky it didnt happen while on the trip to Fla this October. That could have been ugly.

I took the back wheel off my Mustang this spring to check an oil leak in the rear alxe seal and must have forgotten to torque it properly. When I drove it a week later the wheel nuts came loose but because of the thick design of the mag wheel and the heavy wheel nuts I caught it in time. Must remember to double check when working on vehicles especially the wheel nuts.
I have taken to doing a full check on ALL my vehicles every morning now. Just ritual now I guess..... I just installed a new oil pressure gauge today.....Along with a new 5-point harness (track Officials told me I had to update mine the last time I went out ) Ialos bought new lugs and a new rim yesterday. The new rim will be here on next friday.
The guy I bought the motor (460) from said it only had around 10K on it....I was pretty skeptical until today. It runs like a champ (even at the track) but until today, I had no idea how much oil pressure it had. I hooked up the gauge, and lo and behold, it had 75 PSI!!!!! I was pretty happy about that one! Sometime in the near future, I need to get a water temp gauge hooked up to it also so I can see how warm it REALLY is. Well, back to the garage....I have to check the brakes on it now.....then I need to finish building that console, and change the bushings in the steering box. What fun.
That is good oil pressure. What wheel did you get, a stock 16 inch? Are you using the stock steering box? You may want to try a power steering box, it is so much nicer. My 71 F350 is standard steering and is hard to get used to as everything else I have has PS. Hope to change it to PS next year if not sooner.
No, I got some cragar soft 8's for it. Their all black since my truck is all in black primer, I am trying to keep from using too much chrome on it.
I am currently using the stock steering box, and will likely use it on the trip as well. I will most likely change it over to a toyo box after I arrive in Fla.

Post some pics of the Cragar wheels, they will look cool. You will love the power steering box when you change it over.
