I am looking at a 1993 F-150 extended cab, fiberglass cab, bedliner, radio--no cass., and no AC. It has one rust spot at the base of the driver's side extended cab, and a tear in the plastic bench seat. This is a no frills F-150 XL. It has a 5 spd and the 300 6 cyl. Here is the point: it has 160,000 miles on it. It is offered at $6,000. Is this any kind of a deal? Would this be a good deal if I bought it and replaced the engine? What else might go soon? It runs fine right now. I can't afford a newer truck, but have a new baby where reliability becomes a factor. What do you think?

I think in my own opinion that the truck is priced to high. you should be able to get it for around 5k or less. The 300-I6 was one of Ford's best engines. It would have to be fairly popular if they made it for over 30 years. I think the horsepower for the 93 model year was 145. It will make fairly decent gas mileage on the highway too. I have a friend who swears that he gets 23-25 with his. As for the no ac-part: This is a BIG reduction in price, point that out too. No Cassette, that isn't a biggie considering that most "XL"'s didn't have cassette's anywho. Do you know if the 160k miles is highway? That seems alot for a 6 year old truck, but if its highway it is ok. Highway miles have to be the best type of mileage for a vehicle, because the motor is ran and all the "muscles" are used. I wouldn't worry about the seat either, they all will do that sooner or later, and that could count as a discount as well.
Call your local library and give them all pertinent info and they will give you wholesale, dealer and retail value. I bought an 1986 Ford Bronco for $2500.00 and I used the library to get an idea of where the seller should be.It definetly helps you get a starting mark.
