Trouble Starting...

I just aquired a 1993 F150 XL. The problem is, when I start it after it's sat for a few days the fuel injection has a hard time getting it to start idling, it sputters and sometimes just dies. I can start it again and everything is fine, any ideas? Thanks.

nope... I did however put a new fuel filter on in hopes that would help. The old one poured gas out black after I took it off. How would one go about checking fuel pump pressure? Take it to someone that has a gauge of some kind?

In your local store you can obtain proper fuel pressure gauge and use it to check OR talk to a friend to borrow one...

I get 50psi on the fuel rail as soon as the key is turned, and it stays steady at 50 while idling.

Hummm....

One Question: when the trucks is having troubles to Idle, there is black smoke? bad odor?

I'm asking because you said... "it stays steady at 50 while idling" this is not right, as far as I remember, as soon as Vacum is develop at plenum, fuel pressure should be reduced by regulator to about 40 - 45 psi.

Is the vacum hose connected to Fuel pressure regulator?
Is connected to Plenum vacum tree also?
No cracks or vacum leaks at hose?

What's the fuel pressure after driving a while? maybe the regulator is getting stuck..

Update

Ok, I have a little more information, I adjusted the 'idle screw' back down so that it was back to where the orange paint was marked. It didn't seem to help, so I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and hooked it back up and tada, the problem was gone... for about 10-12 starts, now it's back. So i'm thinking faulty sensor just not illuminating the Check Engine light? I don't know what to replace next, O2 sensor? any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Again, the problem is when I start the truck after it's sat overnight, or longer, the engine fires off but immediately dies and I can start it again and it runs fine all day with no other problems.

This is exactly what mine did until I replaced the gasket between the intake manifold and the throttle body. My gasket was half sucked in and krinkled up, basically a big vaccum leak. My truck would start almost immediately, and die just as quickly. Then, the next time I turned the key, started up fine.
