Speedometer Error code

Speedometer Error code
I have a 1996 F-250 7.3L all stock and after returning from a long trip the truck sat for about a week. When I went to start it everything except the speedometer is working fine. When I go to start the truck the speedometer jumps to the Max speed then back down to 0 and the odometer reads E 08 6 and I cant see my mileage. I can't find that error code in my service manual. I have no check engine light or ABS light the overdrive on - off is working fine. Just for grins I replaced the VSS and that did nothing. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks for your help.
