They tried everything, including the recall wiring harness, ICP plug and it still surges, so next week I take it back and give it to the Service Director to drive and I really don't think I'll get it back, if I do, it'll have at least a dozen new parts thrown at it first. I even made them recordings, all they did was confirm that there is a problem, yep it surges and idles really low and almost stalls sometimes, but we don't know why and we don't even know where to start replacing parts......
Ask one of the service managers if a Ford Diesel Engineer ever visits their facility and make an appointment during that time. I took mine in during a visit from one and he diagnosed my X. Told the dealer to change out the entire engine wiring harness plus the FICM harness. I thought for sure they would do the ICP as well but nope. Well, they have had it for a week and are supposed to be done today. I will keep you posted on the fix. Sounds like you have the same exact problem mine has with the surges and stalls.
The way I see it, one of two things will happen by trying- it will either be useless, in which you have wasted your $100, or it will work, in which case you will have a fixed truck and you will have the opprotunity to rub it in the face of the ignorant dealer and corresponding service manager and technicians.
Well, they have had an engineer drive it and look over all of the info that they have and the engineer said that if they can't duplicate it, and there are no codes that they shouldn't do any more unless I can make the truck surge with them in the truck. Well, it only happens every few days or so and I can't get it to happen with them riding with me, which is why the service director wants to drive it himself for a few days to duplicate my daily driving. Anyhow, I am going to see them Tuesday when he comes back from vacation and I will talk to the area director and the regional customer relations manager and I will try to convince them to change the ICP sensor, but I am not going to give them any more of my money to replace it and I am not going to buy one myself. I am paying enough every month to pay for a good truck and if they can't make it good, then I'm not going to pay it any more. If they are stupid enough to give me a new truck b/c they won't take my recommendation and change something so simple, then let them. OH, and they will be paying me for the mileage they put on the truck and the mileage will be added on to the end of my warranty if they fix it and I keep the truck. The "reimbursement" that they have in mind for the mileage isn't clear, they said that they would take care of it. I'm worried that they are going to replace enough parts to fix it after driving it literally hundred of miles now and I'm going to get something like a "complimentary" gift or something to make up for the wear on my tires/ brakes/ engine/ trans/ etc, etc. Sorry, Matt, but I'm a stickler for principle and I pay them enough already and am not going to pay more for a warranty item now, especially after so many trips in and so many people throwing their hands up and saying they can't fix it and that originally the problem didn't exist and I was making it up (the recordings proved them wrong). Thanks for the info though and I will pass it on to them again in hopes that they will give it a shot and maybe I'll come out with a good truck without them having to drive it more and more again.
OH yeah, I wouldn't mind taking the time to change it myself, if you've got one laying around that you know is good, I'll try it. Tuesday is doomsday, I am supposed to drop it off for "further testing", you know, someone is going to use my truck as their daily driver until they experience the surging so that they can verify it, as if the recordings aren't enough, they need to feel it for themselves. If they drive it for a few days and give up and tell me to either suck it up or sue Ford, I'll be beggin for another answer and will definitely pay for the shipping for you to send me a good ICP sensor if you can get one. Thanks for the offer and I'll let you know by sometime around the end of this week what the decision is on the truck. They may go ahead and do it themselves this week, so hold off till I know what they decide. I'll PM you if I need it. Thanks again. Mat
Has anyone taken in their truck for the recall with any "hopup" chips or evidence of one in place and been denied the work?
Can FMC deny recall work after they have stated to anyone they are no longer warrenteeing the truck because of modifications?
...Haven't taken in my 01-04 yet but I have recievd notice...Thanks
