i got a question on ruuning stacks
i got a question on ruuning stacks
since my truck went swimming i now got a good excuse to put stacks on my mule my only question is do i have to worry about water getting in the stacks when it rains
yes you do they make covers for them. if you dont and you start it you get your truck and everything close by all black. someone posted this recently on another site with pics let me find it and i will put up a link. and if you dont wash immediatley it is hard to get off.from what i learned from reading this post of course. as i have no stacks. cant justify cutting my bed and my 2 year old boy sits in the back seat alot.
but l'd love to have some!!!!
ok well it ended up being here on this site. what a mess

Yes, you have to worry about water. Most of us just use coffee cans. But I got tired of everyone at work calling them redneck umbrellas and things of that nature so I made some custom covers. You can only put pre made rain caps, or as I call them "clankers" if you have straight cut stacks. I just took some thin gauge plate and cut it to match my stack openings. Then I took a small strip of the same material and welded it to the top edge of the plate and formed it to hook the top edge of the stack. They have enough weight so that they don't blow off, and I painted them black, and the formed edge silver. You can't even tell they are on unless your looking for it. But by all means get some stacks. I love mine. Hope that helps.

oh dear me....
my coffee cans work well.....when i can remember. i do reccomend stacks, just remember to use protection
having never shopped a 5'' set-up, i don't know what they run, but i can guess that a pre-fabbed stacks set will run ya about the same as a 5'' all the way back....just food for thought....

Hey 69cruiser hows it going. If you look in my gallery i have a diagram of how i did my stacks. I made drain holes in my crossover pipe. I've had them on my truck for over a year and have never had a problem with water or soot coming out of mine. I have never covered them once with a can or anything and its never parked inside. I live in Canada so we get rain and snow and have had no probs so far. P.S You do get a bit of resonance in the cab but you'll love they way she barks when you come on to her!!!!!! Good luck

When it rains do you get black soot draining out on the ground? I thought about doing the same but was afraid that it would drain out on the driveway and stain it. I noticed you don't have a concrete driveway, but I was wondering if you noticed drainage.

Hey Max1775 hows it going. Can't say as i've seen anything coming out of them. I park at my dads and he has a paved driveway. Never seen any stains myself. Ya know i wonder how much water would get in anyway. If you drive the truck everyday any water that would get in would evaperate while driving. If you left it for months at a time you might want to cover them. Transport trucks have there stacks uncovered all the time and it don't seem to hurt them. A guy i know has 6" inch slash cuts on his SD with no drain holes and he had his as long as i've mine and he's had no probs either. P.S. I think the 6" stacks are way to big in my opinion. 4" or 5" are as big as you wanna go. I have 4" and they snap better when your on it my oppinion. I hope i could be of help to you guys and good luck in whatever you decide!!
Thanks Lancer! I was kinda thinking the same thing about the water, would have to be a whole lot of rain to get much in there. My truck's lucky to sit for more than a day without being driven. I'm looking at 4" mitre cuts after I put my flatbed on, I think that would look pretty good. Thanks for the input.

Just so you know - even if you have a way for the water to drain at the bottom of the stacks - it will still shoot the black stuff out - 'cause it is still getting the soot inside the pipes all wet (ask me how I know!!) When I put my flex pipe on - it crimped at the bottom - and made me a little drain for the water by accident... works fine if you don't drive right after it has rained, and the water is all out of the pipes.. Now I use a pair of sch40, 6" pipe end caps to cover my mitre cut stacks...
weel guys it wasn't my tranny i blew the rear bearing on my axel last night the bearing got a little hot that they fused to the axel tubes so i guess i need a new axel housing i guess it's just my luck guys but i'm not giving up yet
