I'm planning on traveling between 6 and 7 thousand miles for a summer vacation. All within two weeks time. Anyone tested their 7.3 like this before? If so anything I should be concerned with, other than a sore bottom?
Check fluids and monitor gauges. I know my V10 would make it...haha...but I would need more GAS and an oil change.
I have owned a few vehicles, and the EX seat is the most comfortable seat I have owned. I am a small (150lb) guy with a lower back injury but I really like the seat. A few months ago, I drove 950 miles straight through without complaint.
fun! My wife and I ran our "new" used excursion 4000 miles 2 weeks after we got it from Rhode Island to Kansas and back! We loved it-made the trip effortlessly. We put our laptop computer on the middle seat-folded down- the kids watched movies, and did not hear from our 3 or 7 year old the whole trip.
Well we are definitely looking forward to it, and your right, the seats are huge, I'm only 5'5, so it is like a lazy boy.
We haven't gone a big trip, but with the dvd system and their playstation, we shouldn't get too many complaints from them.
Just worried on how the car would hold up on a long stretch.
Have fun. Last summer, my wife and I cruised from southeast VA across I-40 to the Grand Canyon, then up to Vegas, then back through the Rockies on I-70. About 5,500 miles in 9 days. Spent almost as much in gas as we did in lodging.
we have the 7.3-on our big trip we saw about 17.5-18 using old fashioned math-the trip cpmputer was reading lower. That was on winter fuel. Summer should be better-held cruise at 70 mph. Went from Rhode Island to Kansas City, Kansas and only filled once after leaving!
Last fall my wife and I took the Excursion on a 3K mile round trip with 5 days worth of driving with the only issue being a blown 33 in BFG AT tire. The X had around 120K miles at the time.
The prior year we took the 99F250 out to Maine and racked over 3,500 miles in 5 days of driving, that vehicle had 120K miles on it at the time too and the only problem we had was trying to drive up Mount Washington in New Hampshire in first gear. We lost 9 quarts of tranny fluid and had to replace the torque convertor. The truck now shows 193K and I'd take it anywere.
BTW, best mileage to date (104-142K miles) with the X was done driving through Yellowstone and Teton National Park. With mathematic calculations the X got just under 20 mpg over full tank of diesel. Lately 16-17 has been the norm.
The F250's best to date (40-193K miles) has been very high 18's but lately 15-16 has been the norm.
