I went to have my brakes checked today and found out my rotors are trashed. he said they were so low they couldnt even be machined. I have 70% on the pads. The guy told me fords are notorious for this. This is my first ford and I have never had any vehicle have the rotors go first. Anybody else? Also are there any aftermarket brake kit upgrades for the super duty, because I couldnt find any on the net except for the power slot rotors.
How many miles on them?
Even when the boys in my fleet warp them, I can get one cut an still be above min thickness.
If they are cheap aftermarket rotors they're done.
I have 20,000 km on my '05 F350 and my rear passenger rotor is also shot, as are the pads, but only on that particular wheel. I took it to my dealer and they told me the rotor was beyond machining and that I needed new pads. I was then told that these parts are VERY hard to get and they had to be special-ordered but could be hot-shotted here within two days. I asked if the truck could be used in the meantime and was told by the service advisor that it wouldn't hurt anything. Three days later on the way home from work, I tried to slow down to pull into my driveway and my foot sank to the floor without any slowing whatsoever. I geared down and finally came to a stop. When I crawled under the truck to see what was wrong, I saw a caliper soaked with brake fluid and a puddle forming under the wheel. A tow truck is on the way as I write this to tow the truck to the dealership. Is this caliper hooped like the rotor and pads? I'm a newbie when it comes to brake trouble...
Well im glad to hear u didnt wreck your truck or worse injure anyone. My calipers are fine as are my pads, just the rotors are shot. As far as being knowledgeable about this problem I am not. Thats why I am posting for input from anyone who knows or has expierenced this.
Off Road Unlimited ( ORU ) has an upgrade kit for the superduties - all 4 new rotors, and new pads all around too. It's a pricey kit - but is supposed to dramatically improve stopping over the stock binders! On a side note - I don't think I've ever heard of rotors being shot, but still having good pads??? I thought your brake pads being shot is what takes out a rotor??
Interesting you having trouble with the passenger rear..... A few weeks back I happened to notice that the rotor on that wheel of my '05 dually was scoring, even though the vehicle had only 1,500 miles.
I looked at the brake pad expecting to find a bit of metal or a stone embedded in it, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. I finally concluded - rightly or wrongly - that the rotor scoring came that way from the factory....
Based now on your experience I'll sure as hell keep an eye on it!
You should have enough to cut them unless you went metal to metal.
A local auto part should be able to mic the rotors.
If the other brands mentioned are too $$$, Wagner rotors due well.
I did not personally see the rotors and I wouldnt know what I was looking at even if I did.
Unless it was obvious like a crack or something. But like I mentioned before 70% on the pads and the rotors were not able to be machined even once according to the tech.
Call summit racing, I went with the power stop rotors and pads and ended all my front brake problems. No more warping ,overheating or anything. I had 4 brake jobs by 55000 miles .Ihave 20000 miles now w/o a problem
