Load Leveling or Not

How I can tell if my 99 Expie 4x4 Eddie Bauer is a LLC compressor driven load leveling truck or not. It leans to the drivers side when looking at it from the rear. I have never heard a compressor running nor have I seen one under the hood. I suspect my torsion bas can be adjusted bringing the driver side back up. It seems as if it has sagged over the years.

Thanks
T

I am sure the VIN can tell you, but I do not know what it is supposed to be. Just look under the truck in the rear and see if you have springs or air bags on top of the axle. If that is too much, then you can look by the kick panel on the front passenger side (kinda up under the dash) and there will be a switch to turn the system on and off. Also the compressor is not noticeable under the hood unless you know what you are looking for and at.

It would be easier to look under the rear at the axle than to look for the switch. I've never seen my switch, I only know where it is by feel. It's stuffed up in there pretty good.

Look for big (about five inches in diameter) black bags where you would expect to see coil springs under the rear end.

I think looking for the on/off switch would be easier since no crawling is required. It is on the passenger side above the kick panel. Looks like a circuit breaker.
Have you heard the compressor, mine is noticeable. And mine does lean to the driver side, I just thought it was me, hmmmm.

Thanks for all the replys. You have all givin me great advise and many things to look for. I have not heard a compressor running and I think I would have noticed it. I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty so when I return home today I will check the springs and look for a switch. I'm fairly sure there are springs under there. I've been looking around and seem to remember some springs. My first thoughts were that the springs had sagged and I needed new springs and shocks. The tires are wearing a little more on the inside. I'll check it out and you folks know. Once I get it leveled, I'm going the trow some new AT radials and get it aligned.

Thanks for you help. Any good articles on tweaking the torsion bar would be greatly appreciated ..

Thanks
T

I just got a 2001 Ediie Bauer 5.4 Triton. I hear a compressor sound right after starting and sometimes while idling. I thought it was a fuel pump at first. Is that the compressor? BTW - mine leans to the passenger side. How do I level it?

Could be a compressor, look under the truck in the rear and see if you have springs or bags on the axle. As for your lean, do you have a 2wd or a 4wd? How many miles on the shocks? Does it lean all to one side, or more so in the rear or front?

It's 2WD. Seems to lean equally front and back. Yes, it has bags. Not sure how old the shocks are. I just got this as second owner. What are the best shocks to use if I need to replace?

How much of a lean are we talking about?

Bilstein makes a very nice shock package for that truck. I used them on a friends 2000 Expy, and it cured the lean. Part numbers for your truck can be found in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=355270 The thread will also tell you how to do it and what tools are needed to complete the task. I have one change to that article though. If you do it yourself, then get some long extensions and go over the gas tank to remove the top bolt on the left rear shock.

Thanks too much for you quick replies.

I've heard Bilsteins are really good. I'll look into them. The lean is between 1 and 2 inches I would imagine. It's noticible enough for my mother to point it out at first glance.

Well, before you go and replace the shocks, let me ask a couple of more Q's. How many miles are on the truck? Does it lean ALL the time, or do you just notice it at a certain place / parking spot? How long has it had the "lean"?
