I have an 89 Bronco with a 5.0 and an automatic. I have not done anything special except put on 32 inch tires. I was wondering if it is worth putting on stainless steel braided brake lines. I have read that it will decrease stopping distance. If it is worth doing is it as simple as just replacing all the flexible rubber brake hoses with the new ones? What is a good place to purchase these from?
I have "heard" SS lines help. Have not actually tested it, but like you have been thinking of upgrading next pad change. I just saw some SS lines listed in my new LMC catalog, they also carry the rubber varity as would Summit or Jegs. I would also like to hear if someone is using SS lines and what they think.
im not sure that you would really see a difference. you need to think about if you plan on lifting this rig soon it would come with lines then . my 6"stageII kit came with braided lines. i honestly havent noticed any difference in stopping and my tires are still 31's hehe
the only advantage of braided lines is that they are less likely to get busted, and they won't rot like rubber ones. If you want more stopping power get heavy duty brake pads for the front, and heavy duty shoes for the back. If thats still not enough you can get drilled and slotted rotors for the front for about $85 a piece.............hope this helps!
That is true that they are less likely to break and won't rot like the rubber ones, but they are also not supposed to expand when force is applied to them. I have some on my truck. I haven't really noticed a difference in stopping, but thats because they were installed the same weekend as my 32 11.50 15 ATs. Before that I had 31 10.50s.
hey guys put in braided stainless pro comp brand lines and fwiw the change on y truck with 35s was pretty large.also get rid of the self adjusting mechanism on the rear drums and adjust with a bit of drag will also help stop you better. regards,shovelhead1
