My a/c clutch is making a squeling noise when the compressor is disengaged. Looking to get some info on diassembly and repair of this. I have messed with it a little, but didn't want to screw it up. I noticed a small bolt in the center of the clutch, is there a way to easily remove this to get the clutch out with out damaging it? Also, once I get it apart, what might I need to look for??
the problem is the clutch hub is too close to the clutch pulley, causing the hub to slightly rub on the face of the pulley. To verify this, while the sqeak is present, apply a drop of oil to the gap between the hub & pulley, the noise should go away if the problem is here. The only way to increase the gap is by removing the hub to install a shim under it in order to move it away from the face of the pulley. The air gap to shoot for is about .020". This procedure will require a hub puller for that compressor, available at a parts store. The shim kit is also available at a parts store.
