I just thought that I would share this little info with everyone. I just made a 2000 mile trip with my 99 f-350 pulling a 15k 5th wheel. The first day of the trip I had the waste gate actuator unhooked and I was getting very high EGT'S when pulling even the slightest incline. I hooked it back up on the second day and have noticed that it made a huge difference in the EGT'S, and didn't really notice much difference in the power response. I am running a custom built Kenny Burns Transmission W/triple plate convertor, diablo sport on the 40 HP setting,Tymar intake and 4inch turbo back MBRP Exhaust, and ISSO Pro gauges. The fuel mileage was around 12.8 MPG for the whole trip, which is better than the 10.5 I got before the mods pulling the same trailer. I guess over all I'm very pleased with the mods and thanks to everyone here and a lot of reading has really helped. Now if I get some bean injectors or something similar how will they effect the EGT'S? I'm not afraid to spend the money if it would make a difference in the over all performance.
Thanks again for all the help that I have gotten here.
You'll see an imcrease in EGT's with larger injectors, but you'll also have more power. If they get too, high all you have to do is let off alittle, or find a lower gear. You may also want to consider propane injection instead of new injectors, lots of hp for the money, and better fuel mileage to boot. I am extremely pleased with mine and we have been running it on a truck like yours for years. Very impressive performance gains.
i don't have the tuner yet... but while towing in noticed the my egt's where about 150 degrees or so lower if i ran the boost and the mph up just before the bottom of a good sized hill and carried the hill in overdrive... as opposed to slowing down a little and letting my mule gear down and pull the hill in a lower gear but higher rpm... seems strange but it's true... now as for the actuator... mine is unpluged and that has given me higher boost numbers... i think this higher boost helped my mule pull those hills while staying in od... which as i said provided lower egts... i think how you run your truck makes as much difference on egts as anything else... i'm just starting to learn how my truck likes to be driven while towing...
