Cost o' Paint?

I have a 1993 F-150 that has by far the worst metallic paint on a truck... The truck is 2-tone Light Mocha with medium mocha middle. Anyways, Anyone had their truck(s) painted? Could you give me an idea what it would cost? I am not planning to replace the metallic, just one color(light mocha) thanks guys!

I can't help you much but I had my '86 Mustang repainted in spring at Maaco and I am pretty happy with it (for the money) the only complaints I have is that they didn't mask good enough and thatthe rust wasn't removed in one spot before they painted. I think that if you really make a big deal about the stuff you want them not to and to do they will do everything like you want. The price for my Mustang was $500 complete and that included stripping at least half the car to bare metal because the old paint was peeling. I assume that a F-150 would be more mostly because of the inside of the bed.

I also painted my '81 F-150 myself , it was the first car/truck I ever painted and it looks great, I removed the bed to paint it and made darn sure all the panals were smooth and that they all were sanded with 300 grit paper with a jitterbug (for adhearson), I masked carfully, and I wiped the truck down just before I painted with a tack cloth, I used a $40 CampelHousfeld (something like that) gun and I didn't get one run and had no experince. This might also be a option if you have the time.

Great Info! I like the idea of $500. Really the paint isn't bad on the top of the cab or inside the bed. The truck hasn't really ever hauled anything serious, Hmmm, might stop by, thanks again for the info.

Depends on how much you want and what you want it to look like? If you do a good job of prepping your body, then the Maaco type paint job should work fine. As stated earlier, they don't take the time to mask everything as they should! If you take it to a normal body shop, it will cost from $1500 up depending on your color choices and amount of body work required.

I see slik, Really I don't need the entire truck repainted, just the fendors, doors, and bed sides. I have been in several sand storms which chipped the paint with very small gravel, and people opening doors on it, and driving down rock roads. But the companies around my town will only paint the entire truck....

another option might be to do it yerself.. near here, there is a paint/body store that supplies small body shops with supplies. they have a spray booth and spray guns that you can rent by the day. i dont know how much it costs, tho.. i think it was about 100$ for the booth for the day, and $15 for the gun. of course, you then have to buy paint.... $200 for a gallon of bright regatta blue metallic, which can probably paint my trick twice!! without the inside of the bed, of course...

Pastmaster, did you check Macco? I guess I didn't see any cars/trucks that wren't completly painted there. But I would maybe find out how much it would be to have the whole truck painted, if it is the same colar they still don't have to paint the door jams and probably wont need to paint the inside of the bed.

Chuck, I painted my truck out side! I had bought International red (as in tractor paint) for my truck, it cost me $18.95 a gallon at Fleet Farm, I bought a gallon of mineral spirets (the paint is enamal), I got masking tape, tack rags(three), lots of sand paper, glazing compound, and new bolts for the bed so I had it all done for around $60-$70!!! I decided on the Fleet Farm paint after I found out that the local paint store wanted $361.99 for ONE gallon of paint that was almost the same color!! It turned out great and I have had many compliments, no one would ever guess I skimpted on the paint, plus the tractor paint should be more durable that automatice paint (when was the last time you saw paint peeling off a tractor?) Just food for thought, and I love to tell people.
