i recently installed a gt intake, a comp 252H, roller timing chain and holley 600 cfm vac secondary on my 1976 f250 I know i have the timing set right i have fuel and i have spark. I finally found that the carb isnt sucking air through it. The engine ran welll but a lifter stuck so i'm pretty sure my rings are good. Any ideas why its not starting/ sucking air?

check your cam timing pull the plugs remove the valve covers put #1 on top dead center compression the vavles should be closed and the cam at the lowest part of the lobe
i used a summit timing roller timing chain and set it at 0 advance/retard so straight up.
I aligned the timing marks on the new gears so i think it should be right.
i did notice that significant amount of air was comin out of the pcv and oil fill holes in the valve covers if that helps, to me it suports the cam timing is off am i right?
what are the chances of a mismatch timing set??
If i need to pull the front apart i think i better pull the cam and reapply assembly lube. How can i tell if i damaged the cam from cranking can i reuse the intake gaskets i just put on??
sorry for the cross post

first thing's first, do a compression test, this will tell you if things are ok mechanically. If you lined the timing marks up then you should be ok there. You say a lifter stuck? Lifters should'nt stick. You need to pull you valve covers and with #1 on TDC, and turn the motor over can check you valve events. But first do a compression test. Your intake could be leaking into the crankcase as well. What makes you think your motor is not sucking air, when cranking or what?

let me rephrase and elaborate
the lifter collapsed.
it had a few slightly bent pushrods but all of the rockers were tight except the one with th bad lifter
and the timing chain was pretty loose
when cranking i cant detect any airflow into the carburator
hey guys
it was a timing problem
the cam was off a couple teeth and the dist wasnt advanced enough
thanks for the help
guess thats what i get for working all night and putting the timing set on at about 5:30

You get cudos for dedication, putting a timing set on at 0530 in the morning.
