Vented Gas Cap

I got a new gas cap for my '63 F100 with the 262 i6, and they assured me that it was the vented type. But after driving, when I remove the cap, it sucks air every time. Does this mean that it's not vented?

If it's like mine, it allows the air to be sucked in, but not vented out.

I had lot of pressure build up when setting out in the sun, so I disassembled the cap and modified it to vent both ways.

Some vented caps appear to be designed for fuel injected cars and certainly don't work with our trucks.

My solution is found at the end of this thread:

Good luck!

Thanks. I checked out that thread. So your solution was the different cap from Pep boys? Or the hole drilled?

I was having these same issues and bought a new "vented" cap from Oreilleys but it wasn't vented to the atmosphere. The one from PepBoys solved my problems.

The Pep Boys cap was well under $10, so I went with that, rather than drilling holes. Not sure how the manufacturer gets away with it but it appears to vent both ways--and completely solved my problem.

Did you read post #3?

Follow the link and find the answer there.

If you are unable to follow the link, the pepboys part is: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...203146%2F00840

As a follow up, I purchased the cap shown above from Pep Boys and it solved the issue!
