Has anyone here actually done this? Besides the obvious time and effort to install one, and the need to keep a greasegun filled with the proper grease, can anyone see any downsides for doing this? To just grease this joint, ya' gotta' do almost all of the labor, anyway.
Anybody believe that this might weaken the slip-joint's strength??
At what point along the length would YOU drill the hole?
I guess If I were to perform this task, I'd put it right smack in the mid point.
It'll weaken the strength (drilling holes always does) of the shaft, but I highly doubt it would ever cause a failure.
I'd also use a high temp, non-washable, synthetic grease on this joint. FWIW, I'd also dedicate a grease gun for just this type of grease, and use it on the rest of the truck as well.
Elcheapo lithium is not something you really want to use, unless it's some type of joint that gets greased on a hourly basis.

I'd thought about getting some of Ford's grease that's dedicated to this joint, and filling the gun with that. Of course, that's gonna' get pricy, indeed!
