How many miles can I expect to get?

Drivers

How many miles can I expect to get? Right now I have 129,000 and counting.
I do not tow, drive 5 miles a day back and forth to work, some off road on the weekends with my hounds.

That is about it, I am looking for at least 250,000 with regular maint, and service.

Is this about right?

Thanks

Clint

many are getting twice that, and if you aren't working it hard, but maintain it properly, you won't be needing a different truck for a long time... My father's truck made it to 300,000 without the right maintenance... it is in pretty sad shape. He bought it new in 84, and it could be kept going if he invests back into it, although I doubt he will. We have another 84 to take it's place, which has about 200,000 on it now. His was a farm truck, so it has been worked hard most of it's life.

Thanks fellro86That is just what I want to hear.

I do not like the newer Pickups, I love my old 88.

I almost to 350,000. It's a 93 F350 7.3 turbo and has been used to pull trailers almost it's whole life. Good maintenance can help it go a long way.

I just sold a 95 250 with 289,000 that ran perfect. I am now driving my dads old 97 f-350 with 245,000 and its running like brand new! Only mayjor thing that has been replaced is the clutch.

Lots of short trips is about very hard on a car. Most of the wear occures at start and prior to warm up. I'd ride a bicycle

I used to have a 9 mile (each way) commute and usually rode a bicycle. When I was lazy or in a hurry I would ride a motorcycle.

Now my commute is 40 miles (each way) and I ride a motorcycle.

Since your commute is so short the motor will not have time to warm up and at the very least you should change your oil a bit more often than normal. Except for extreem weather I would recomend an alternative mode of transportation (like a bicycle) for commuting.

cheers

I currently have a 93 F250 4x4 XLT 7.3L SRW, and just hit 230,000.

The engine has never given me one problem(hope I didn't just screw that up).
It has taken me 13 yrs this month to put those miles on, and I was just ready to pull the trigger on an 05, until this recall came out yesterday. Now I will most likely wait and see what happens.

The truck has some xmission issues that come and go. I have lived with them for the last year without going for the 3,000k rebuild replacement ford offers.
Although I could make it to 300,000 +, I think I am just getting tired of it.
Want something with more power, and I need the CC for the kids.

Good luck

Heck, you can get 250K from a gas burner. From what I've heard, 400K+ is not uncommon for these engines. My 6.9 is @ 300,000 and still runs like new.

Mine has 323k, with 1 set of headgaskets. I'd think that 5 miles is not really enough warm up.
