Went shooting today....
I danced some bottles down a ditch, and blew up a gallon jug. Between 44 mag and 357, I took the mirror apart on an old car door, and almost tore the rear pillar off of it.
The feel of a weapon matters a lot. I think I expended four hundred rounds, and just got comfortable with the weapons I was firing. I have a lot of respect now for Hornady firearms....
Today was cool!
TIPS: If firing a shotgun under a shoulder, as with a bow - stabilise the gun at the same "Lock-Point". This maintains a useable sight picture.
Quail shot is useful for sandblasting - it don't penetatrate for didly. For target practice it sucks.
And your right; bird shot just doesn't do it for me either.
I used to shoot BRI Sabot Slugs, but they weren't cheap and were bought out by, I think Remington.
The only shotgun I had at the time was a Luigi Franchi SPAS 12.
The sabots were more accurate than the regular slugs.
Wish I new how to post pics, cause I have a nice one
the vehicle we bought and used as target practice.
My new weapon of choice for deer is a 30-30 T/C pistol with red dot scope.
I haven't been shooting for a few months, but I do enjoy target practice and clay pigeon shooting.

I've got a Springfield XD-40 sub-compact, by the way. Feel free to recommend any relatively low-recoil rifles... I promise I'll check them out when I'm looking for my next gun.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I had taken him to a gunshow, back in April, and he saw a "Chipmunk" (22 lr.) and asked me if I would buy it for him.
Would I?!?!?!?!!? "Yes Brad. I'll be glad to!!"
Anyway. . . I put a little 4x scope on it and we finally got a couple of hours to ourselves, and some range time.
I try to teach gun safety as well as marksmanship. (I used to run a High Power Rifle Program for my Sportsman's Club and used to be a rifle/pistol instructor.)
Anyway, I put a target up at 10 yds. just to get him on paper.
I put my "Bull's Bag" on the bench and set up his rifle for him. After the mandatory eye and ear protection is put on, we got out the ammo.
I showed him on a target (on a clipboard) where to hold the crosshairs and to let out his breath and stop about mid-way on exhale, and squeeeeeeze the trigger. Bang!
His first shot was 1" low and 1/4" left.
I told him to do EXACTLY the same thing, again. Bang!
This shot was 1/8" above the first. Let's do this again.
The 3rd shot was touching the first!
I moved the sight over (what I thought was 1/4") and up about 1".
The next three shots were 1/8" left and 1/4" low.
A little 'tweaking' of the scope and he was dead on!!!!!
Brad had the BIGGEST grin on his face.
When we moved the target out to 25 yds, we had to re-adjust the scope a little.
I had him shooting 'groups' (off of the "Bull's Bag") for the next half hour.
When he had the trigger pull down 'pat', I got out a set of 'clangers' and set them up.
This little boy was thrilled to see the 'clangers' spin around on the 'rack'.
I brought out my Remington 541-T (22 lr.) and showed him how accurate it is at 50 and 100 yds.
It is a little big for him, but, with the aid of the 'Bag' he was shooting at and hitting 12 ga. shotshells (empty) at 50 yds., after a little practice.
Ahhhhhhhhh. That's my boy!!!
i hear you. my favorit is my s&w model 29, 44 mag. the dirty harry gun.
the state range is 4 miles from my house and it to is way to costly. have a farmer i'm pals with and he lets us shot in his bankrun/sand pit when he's not mining it. man i would hate to see how much lead he screens out
