Ok....as you most of you know, I'm doing a swap from a Mazda 5 speed to a C6 auto...Well, I had it all together, then I went to put the nuts onto the torque converter to the flexplate....well, when I went to turn the motor, it would budge...I installed the starter and when I hit it, it would bump it just enough to see the pulleys move...so I figured something was binding and I know it's the converter....I thought I had it lined up on the pump for the trans but I may be wrong...anyhow she's got to come back out....hopefully I didn't screw anything up...I could see it in the flexplate that it was bent forward so slightly and it had been rubbing about mid way...Any ideas? Could the converter be different between a 351 and a 300? Never really screwed around with automatics that much, and this swap thing is driving me crazy....any and all help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks
When you installed the convertor on to the trans you did not set it in all the way, More than likely you have broken the front pump on the trans. When you install the convertor on the trans you need to spin it intill it sets in three steps. If you have any questions email me. Or you can call me by going to our web site located below.
Ya, I kind of figured it wasn't seated, but I had to make sure first...I talked to a couple places and they said that as long as the engine didn't start and was only turned over a few times, that the pump would more than likely be OK....I won't know till next Friday....managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder working on the damn thing...eheheheh.....I'll have it eventually....Thanks
Hey Phill, sorry to hear about your shoulder, it has been my experience that if the convertor is not seated, the front pump will be crushed. Also check your flywheel, if it has any kind of bend or warp replace it or you will have major vibrations. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
